Health Services
Supporting Healthy Learners
Payette Schools are committed to supporting the health, safety, and well-being of learners so they can fully participate in learning opportunities throughout the school day. Health Services works collaboratively with families, school staff, and community providers to help support learner wellness, attendance, safety, and academic success.
Payette Secondary Schools are supported by the district nurse serving:

- Payette Academy
- McCain Middle School
Health Services support is designed to help learners remain safe, healthy, and engaged in learning while attending school and school-sponsored activities.
Health Services Support
Health Services helps support:
- Learner wellness and safety
- Illness and injury response
- Medication procedures
- Immunization compliance
- Health accommodations and care planning
- Chronic health condition support
- Communication with families and healthcare providers
The goal of Health Services is to support learner health needs while minimizing disruptions to learning whenever possible.
Nursing Services
The district nurse collaborates with:
- Families
- Administrators
- Teachers
- Counselors
- Coaches and activity advisors
- Community healthcare providers
to support learner health needs within the educational setting.
When Learners Should Stay Home
Families are encouraged to keep learners home when they:
- Have a fever
- Are vomiting
- Have diarrhea
- Show symptoms of contagious illness
- Are unable to safely participate in school activities
Learners should generally remain fever-free for 24 hours without fever-reducing medication before returning to school unless otherwise directed by a healthcare provider.
Immunization Information
Families may be asked to provide:
- Updated immunization records
- Vaccination documentation
- Exemption documentation permitted under Idaho law
For current immunization requirements, families should consult:
- Idaho Department of Health & Welfare
- Their healthcare provider
- School health staff
Medications at School
Whenever possible, medications should be administered at home. If medication must be administered during the school day:
- Parent/guardian authorization is required
- Medication forms may be required
- Prescription medications will remain in original labeled containers
- Medication procedures must follow district guidelines
Families should contact the school office or district nurse regarding medication procedures and required documentation.
Health Plans & Medical Needs
Families should notify the school regarding medical needs that may impact learners during the school day, including:
- Severe allergies
- Asthma
- Diabetes
- Seizure disorders
- Other chronic medical conditions
Additional documentation or care plans may be necessary to support learner safety and health needs while at school.

- Medical information
- Authorized pickup contacts
Accurate information helps the school respond quickly and appropriately during emergencies or health-related situations.
Mental Health & Wellness
Learner wellness includes both physical and emotional health. Families needing additional support are encouraged to contact:
- School counselors
- Administration
- Health Services staff
